India’s strategic technology advantage over many other emerging economies lies in the fact that it has been able to conveniently skip technology generations more than once. In the telecommunication sector for instance, many parts of rural India were able to quickly graduate from no connectivity whatsoever to state-of-the-art mobile communication. Thousands of Indian villages never even witnessed the era of the copper wire fixed land line telephone. The multimedia rich mobile handset, as I am sure you have heard, has fascinated many people for whom the sight of a car or a truck is as historic as a chopper landing on a national highway. Is there more to come? Sure there is.
