Salesforce or Zoho CRM for an Indian Business: An Honest Comparison

Both CRMs can run an Indian sales team well. They differ in cost, how they are customised, the ecosystem around them and the people you need to run them. Here is a fair side-by-side, using each vendor's own pages.

Quick answer

Zoho CRM usually costs less per user (published from $14 per user per month billed annually for Standard, with a free edition for 3 users) and suits businesses that want a lower cost of entry or already use Zoho apps. Salesforce costs more (Starter Suite from $25, Enterprise $175 per user per month) and suits businesses that need deep customisation, very large teams or its wider ecosystem. Both offer data storage in India (Zoho's Mumbai and Chennai data centres; Salesforce Hyperforce India), AI assistants (Zia and Agentforce) and telephony integration. The better choice is the one that fits your sales process, total three-year cost and the people who will run it.

Key takeaways

  • Published prices (USD, excluding taxes, checked 15 October 2026): Zoho CRM Standard $14 to Ultimate $52; Salesforce Starter Suite $25 to Unlimited $350 per user per month.
  • Zoho has a free edition for 3 users and a 15-day trial; Salesforce offers a 30-day trial of Starter Suite for up to 10 users.
  • Both can store data in India: Zoho in Mumbai and Chennai, Salesforce on Hyperforce India.
  • Zoho customises with Deluge scripts and custom modules; Salesforce with Flow and Apex code.
  • Total cost includes partner fees, add-ons, telephony and WhatsApp, not just licences.

Indian businesses comparing CRMs usually end up at the same two names. Search data shows it: “zoho crm vs salesforce” is searched about 390 times a month in India, “salesforce vs zoho” about 320 times, and “salesforce consultant” about 1,000 times (OpenSEO, October 2026).

Most comparisons online are written by one of the vendors or by a partner who sells one of them. This guide uses only the vendors' own pages, checked on 15 October 2026, and gives the points that actually decide the choice for an Indian business. Prices change often, so confirm them before you buy.

Comparison table: Zoho CRM is lower per user, has a free edition for 3 users, customises with Deluge and custom modules, has Mumbai and Chennai data centres, Zia AI and Zoho One apps with PhoneBridge; Salesforce is higher per user, has a Free Suite, customises with Apex and Flow, uses Hyperforce India, Agentforce AI, AgentExchange and Open CTI
The short version. Details and sources below.

Price: what each vendor publishes

Editions are not equal across the two columns, so do not compare row by row. Compare the edition that has the features you need. For many Indian businesses that means automation rules, assignment, custom fields, reports and an API, which sit in Zoho's Professional or Enterprise and Salesforce's Pro Suite or Enterprise.

Trials: Zoho offers a 15-day free trial. Salesforce offers a 30-day free trial of Starter Suite for up to 10 users, and of its Agentforce Sales editions.

Data in India

Both vendors can keep your data in India. Zoho lists Mumbai as its primary and Chennai as its secondary data centre for India; Indian accounts sign in at accounts.zoho.in. Salesforce lists India among its Hyperforce regions and says customer data is stored in the country where the org is located, for services available there. Ask either vendor to confirm in writing where your data and backups will sit.

Customisation

Zoho CRM is configured through its settings, custom modules and Deluge, which Zoho calls its proprietary scripting language and the most deeply integrated language for CRM functions. Custom modules are limited by edition (Zoho's specifications list 10 on Standard, 25 on Professional, 200 on Enterprise and 500 on Ultimate). API calls are counted in credits per 24 hours, starting at 50,000 plus an allowance per user licence on paid editions.

Salesforce is configured with Flow, which Salesforce says lets you build simple or complex automations, forms and guided experiences with no code, and with Apex, a strongly typed, object-oriented programming language for developers. This gives Salesforce more depth for complex processes, and it also means you will usually need a certified admin or partner to run it well.

AI

Zoho's assistant is Zia, which Zoho says predicts key customer data points and events in your sales cycle and handles routine work. Salesforce's is Agentforce, described as an AI agent platform; Salesforce says Agentforce was formerly Einstein Copilot and that Einstein is embedded across its platform. Whatever the vendor shows in a demo, test AI on your own data and decide what it is allowed to change in the CRM.

Calls, WhatsApp and other apps

  • Telephony: Zoho's PhoneBridge connects a PBX or contact centre to Zoho apps. Salesforce offers Open CTI for third-party telephony, and Salesforce Voice with Telephony Providers (formerly Service Cloud Voice). Check that your Indian telephony provider has a working connector.
  • WhatsApp: both support WhatsApp through the WhatsApp Business Platform. See WhatsApp CRM for what to check.
  • Other apps: Zoho One bundles Zoho's business apps (finance, HR, marketing, support). Salesforce's marketplace, formerly AppExchange, is now AgentExchange, with apps, agents and consulting services.

When Zoho CRM is usually the better fit

  • A small or mid-size team where cost per user matters.
  • You already use Zoho Books, Zoho Desk or other Zoho apps.
  • Your process is standard: leads, deals, follow-ups, quotes, reports.
  • You want to start with a free or low-cost edition and grow.

When Salesforce is usually the better fit

  • A large or fast-growing sales and service team across regions.
  • Complex processes: multiple business units, approvals, territories, partner channels.
  • You need industry clouds, for example Education Cloud for universities.
  • You have, or will hire, a Salesforce admin or a long-term partner.

What Indian teams ask most often

Can we try before we commit? Yes. Zoho offers a 15-day trial and a free edition for 3 users; Salesforce offers a 30-day trial of Starter Suite for up to 10 users. Use the trial with a week of real leads, not sample data, and let two salespeople use it before managers decide.

Will it handle GST invoices? A CRM is not an accounting system. Zoho CRM can be connected to Zoho Books, Zoho's own accounting app; Salesforce users usually connect an accounting product through an integration. Plan who issues the tax invoice.

Can it connect to our IVR and missed-call numbers? Usually yes, through PhoneBridge on Zoho or Open CTI on Salesforce, but only if your provider supports it. Ask the provider for a live demo with your CRM, not a slide.

The real cost: three years, not one licence

Licence price is only part of it. Add implementation and data migration (connecting your website forms and Google Analytics 4 tracking), partner or consultant fees, add-ons (telephony, WhatsApp, AI, extra storage or API capacity), training, and the cost of an admin. A cheaper licence with a poor setup often costs more than an expensive one set up well, because the team stops using it.

Questions to ask any Salesforce or Zoho consultant

  1. 1Are you a partner of this vendor, and do you earn from the licences you recommend?
  2. 2Which edition do we need for our process, and why not the one below it?
  3. 3What is the full three-year cost, including add-ons and your fees?
  4. 4Who owns the account, the data and any code you write? (It should be your business.)
  5. 5How will our phone system, WhatsApp, website forms and ad lead forms connect?
  6. 6What training and support do we get after go-live?

Both are strong products used by many Indian businesses. The mistake is choosing on brand or price alone. Choose on fit, total cost and who will run it. For the wider decision, read when a business needs a CRM consultant and what a digital marketing consultant does, and for tracking where your leads come from before they reach the CRM, see the GA4 setup checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zoho CRM cheaper than Salesforce?

On published prices, yes. Zoho CRM lists Standard at $14 per user per month billed annually, while Salesforce Starter Suite is $25 and Enterprise $175 (USD, excluding taxes, October 2026). Compare total three-year cost, not only licences.

Does Zoho or Salesforce store data in India?

Both can. Zoho lists Mumbai and Chennai data centres for India, and Salesforce lists India as a Hyperforce region where customer data is stored in the country of the org.

Which is better for a small business in India?

Many small businesses start with Zoho CRM because of its free edition for 3 users and lower per-user prices. Salesforce also offers a Free Suite and Starter Suite. Pilot both with your own process.

Do I need a Salesforce consultant?

For anything beyond a basic setup, usually yes. Salesforce's depth, with Flow and Apex, is powerful but needs a skilled admin or partner. Zoho is often set up by smaller teams, but complex processes still benefit from expert help.

Do both CRMs support WhatsApp and telephony?

Yes. Zoho offers WhatsApp integration and PhoneBridge for telephony; Salesforce offers WhatsApp messaging, Open CTI and Salesforce Voice. Check that your Indian telephony provider has a working connector.

WhatsApp CRM: Why the Conversation Must Live Inside the CRM Record

Most Indian sales and admissions teams sell on WhatsApp, but the chats sit on personal phones. A WhatsApp CRM puts every conversation on the customer's record, where managers can see it and it stays when people leave.
